About Pratim

Pratim Ranjan Bose is a senior journalist and public policy analyst. He writes newspaper columns, appears frequently on national and international television channels and hosts podcast shows on Indian economy, politics and geopolitics. Bose works in advisory roles with various corporates, state governments and think tanks.

A postgraduate in economics from Jadavpur University and a Jefferson Fellow, Pratim began his career as a financial journalist in 1992. Over the next three decades, he wrote extensively on the Indian growth story for top English media—like The Hindu and The Hindu Business Line—and held senior editorial positions.

Alongside domain expertise in key verticals like energy, infrastructure, trade and connectivity, Pratim is credited with ground research across the social, political and economic spectrum in India and the neighbouring economies of Bangladesh, Nepal and Myanmar. He participated in field studies in China and Indonesia as part of the Jefferson Fellowship.

His cross-border experience, including an understanding of the socio-political perspectives of the neighbouring countries, and sectoral knowledge helped Pratim graduate from one of India’s foremost financial reporters to a public policy analyst. He made significant contributions to India’s development pursuits in Northeast, regional trade and connectivity as also in energy policy space through think tanks. He tracks Northeast and Bangladesh closely.

Bose was invited by top Indian and foreign think tanks like King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Centre (KAPSARC, Riyadh), Ashoka Centre for People-centric Energy Transition (ACPET), Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS) and Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (MP-IDSA) to address seminars. He advised the Government of Madhya Pradesh on industry issues as part of an expert group.

Pratim signed off from his regular journalism career in 2020, as Deputy Editor of The Hindu Business Line. He authored many research reports, papers and book chapters in volumes edited by noted experts. He now runs podcast shows offering insights into Indian economy, politics and geopolitics.

Outside of profession, Pratim is a green enthusiast, an animal lover and a humorist. He created an urban green cover of nearly 200 trees in his hometown of Kolkata. He writes humour columns in vernacular. His sole literary work is Bengali fiction.
